World's airlines increase passenger traffic by 37% in 2023

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that passenger traffic on global carriers grew by 36.9% in 2023. Consequently, it bounced back to 94.1% of pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

Last year, European airlines saw a 22% rise in passenger volume on overseas flights. The percentage of occupied cabins increased to 83.8% in 2022 from 80.7% in 2022.

Overseas flights increased by 28.3% in North America, while the percentage of occupied cabins increased by 84.6 percent from 80.7 percent in the previous year. Passenger traffic increased by 126% in the Asia-Pacific area, while the load factor grew from 74.1 to 83.1%.

China's domestic aviation traffic has increased by around 139% in the last year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 7.1%.

IATA CEO Willie Walsh stated, "The strong recovery from the pandemic has continued into 2023." It's fantastic to hear that travel is recovering. The whole economy benefits from the restoration of connection."
