In a policy brief he submitted, Guterres called for the development of a "code of conduct to ensure the integrity of information on digital platforms."

The code specifically instructs all parties involved to "take urgent and immediate actions to guarantee that all applications incorporating artificial intelligence are safe, secure, and compliant to ethical and human rights."

According to Guterres' suggestion, governments, tech firms, and other players should abstain from exploiting and encouraging hate speech and disinformation for any purpose.

"Governments must provide a free, thriving, independent, and varied media landscape with robust journalistic protection. All items on digital platforms must guarantee security and privacy,” he noted.

Technology firms should also abandon commercial strategies that "put collaboration before human rights, privacy, and security," Guterres added.
