IATA: Global air cargo traffic is up 9.4% on pre-crisis levels

Global air cargo volume grew by 9.4% in May 2021 compared to pre-crisis April 2019, according to an International Air Transport Association (IATA) press release.

In April, global air cargo traffic was up 11.3% compared to April 2019.

"Air cargo continued to perform well in May 2021... Supply chain conditions and economic activity supported air cargo," it said. 

International air cargo volume was up 10.4 per cent in May 2019.

According to the association, the strongest growth in air cargo in May compared to the "pre-COVID" May 2019 was in Africa, up 23.1%, North America up 21.6% and the Middle East up 13.9%. 

Europe was up 6% and Asia-Pacific was up 2.7%. In Latin America, however, the figure fell by 14.3%.
