The watchdog discovered that Apple has been preventing third-party application developers from notifying customers about less expensive music subscription services available outside of the App Store for nearly ten years, in breach of EU antitrust laws.

In 2019, Spotify filed a complaint, prompting the European Commission to look into Apple.

According to sources cited by Financial Times in February, the agency is set to punish the manufacturer of iPads and iPhones by approximately €500 million.
